Optimat is an independent strategy consultancy with over 25 years’ experience of innovation policy and practice both in the UK and Europe - working at the interface of industry, science and the economy. This includes knowledge based economic development, sustainable business development and technology commercialisation. These services have been delivered to a diverse range of clients including companies, universities, sector associations, national/regional agencies and various public sector bodies. Over the past 10 years, Optimat has led a number of European networks and policy studies related to public procurement of innovation (PPI), the European Research Area and ICT. These have all included extensive engagement with stakeholders in different European countries and sectors as well as the development & management of dissemination websites and publications.

Angus Hunter

Angus HUNTER is the founder and Managing Director of Optimat. He has over 10 years experience of developing and leading a number of European coordination action projects including those that are concerned with the public procurement of innovation. He has worked in partnership with Gaynor Whyles since 2009 to apply the lessons from the UK innovation procurement programme at a European level and is the manager of the complementary EcoQUIP project mentioned above.

Gaynor Whyles

Gaynor Whyles is an Optimat associate and a leading expert on Innovation Procurement and pioneered the UK methodology for the UK Forward Committment Procurement (FCP) programme, which has now been applied widely in European projects. As well as working with Angus Hunter as the lead mentor and assistant project manager of the EcoQUIP project, she is also exploring options with CEN-CENELEC to embed the proven methodologies within an innovation management standard.

Ashley Stewart

Ashley STEWART is an Optimat Strategy Consultant specialising in marketing, ICT/digital economy and technology enhanced learning. She has played a key role in the web-based communication platforms that have been established for the growing portfolio of Optimat-led European networls and is leading the EcoQUIP Task Group on ‘ICT solutions for healthcare’.
